MPS Awareness Day

International MPS Awareness Day, also known as International Mucopolysaccharidosis Awareness Day, is being observed today! It has always been observed annually on May 15th.

Raising awareness for Mucopolysaccharidosis (MPS) and Mucolipidosis (ML).

Inclusion-cell (I- cell) disease also known as Mucolipidosis II (ML II) is a rare inherited metabolic disorder characterized by coarse facial features, skeletal abnormalities and mental retardation. This disorder belongs to a group of diseases known as lysosomal storage disorders. Multiple enzyme deficiencies associated with I-cell disease lead to the accumulation of certain fatty substances (mucolipids) and certain complex carbohydrates (mucopolysaccharides) within the cells of many tissues of the body. At present there is no cure for any of the mucopolysaccharide diseases.
